Joe Pomerening

Dr. Joseph (Joe) Pomerening is a Science and Technology Policy Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and is currently working in strategic planning and communications in the Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) at the U.S. Department of Energy. His projects have included developing multimedia resources for outreach, and most recently, production of a short film featuring sustainability efforts in bioenergy across the United States. After earning a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in plant molecular and cellular biology, his postdoctoral research at Stanford University focused upon decoding the molecular signals involved in cell division. As faculty at Indiana University-Bloomington, Joe established a publically- and privately-funded interdisciplinary research program investigating how cell proliferation is controlled, while also being awarded faculty grants to implement multimedia tools in his classroom to improve active learning and assist students in comprehending and retaining complex molecular biology concepts.
